  • Transition to Middle School Program

    This program focuses on three main themes to help elementary students be better prepared for their transition to middle school. Activities and lessons include:

  • Focus

    Distraction is inevitable, learn strategies to promote classroom focus and enhance working memory in order to set yourself up for success in (and out!) of the classroom. In this workshop we focus on:

    Exploring parts of the brain and how your amygdala works for and against you sometimes

    Active listening strategies

    Breathing strategies to calm anxiety or worry

    Working together with a team

    Self talk + visualization

    Managing emotions

    Working through distractions

  • Problem-Solving

    Students will learn the process for solving problems and practice the critical thinking skills of analysis, risk-taking, and evaluation -- while having fun with one another! In this workshop we focus on:

    Strategies for effective problem-solving and practice

    How to spend time

    How to handle social situations

    Prioritization with homework

    Time management

    Brainstorming

    Goal setting

    Self-management and social management

    How to be proactive to set yourself up for success

  • Community Building

    Teamwork is an essential skill in middle school and beyond. Learn how to effectively communicate, actively listen, develop leadership skills, and navigate conflict for a better group work experience. In this workshop we focus on:

  • Curiosity

    Curiosity promotes neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to form new connections, especially in response to learning. This workshop will encourage students to think outside the box, ask questions, and gain strategies to dive deeper into topics of interest. In this workshop we focus on helping students explore these questions + ideas:

    How do I face challenges?

    Take risks (key is teenage success as this is a need, developmentally)

    September Success Workshop- This workshop was designed to set middle schoolers for the start of the new school year. In this workshop students practiced:

    New Year, New You- includes strategies and ideas for connecting with Middle Schoolers and how to use the Healthy Mind Platter in the classroom.

    SEL Toolkit- provides teachers with activities and resources to strengthen the classroom’s “hidden curriculum” so students feel save, seen, and heard.
